Exhibition 2019

EAST meets WEST

Paintings by Anne Korff at the Burren College of Art
16 May – 14 Jun, 2019
The opening remarks were given by renowned Irish sculptor, John Behan, and was attended by over 120 people. The paintings explore motifs that extend from Islamic Culture through Christian and Celtic Art. They reflect Anne’s experience of the refugee crisis. The purpose of the exhibition was to create awareness and to raise funds for the NGO ‘Chios Eastern Shore Response Team’.
The paintings are about displacement, loss, hope, seperation and trauma. This refects the experiences that the refugees have when leaving their homeland and when making the dangerous crossing between Turkey and Greece.
Anne hopes to encourage the viewer to embrace cultural diversity and to open dialogue. This, she hopes, will help to build bridges between the Christian and Islamic Worlds.
